    Description

    Position Overview:

    The Gift Shop Assistant provides friendly, knowledgeable customer service to guests of the Leader Dog gift shop by using a touchscreen cash register to process sales, answer questions about merchandise and provide assistance to guests as needed. Guests include Leader Dog clients, paid and volunteer team members, and the public. The Gift Shop Assistant will also stock and straighten displays, answer phone calls, open and close the shop and notify the supervisor when supplies are low. The person will most often work alone. The gift shop provides important revenue to Leader Dog and is an excellent marketing tool. The Gift Shop Assistant has an opportunity to talk one on one with visitors and provide a welcoming experience.

    Skills and Attributes:

    The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

    • Willingness to be trained on cash register software (or have previous retail/cashier

    experience)

    • Be comfortable handling cash, checks and credit card transactions
    • Have moderate computer skills and/or experience operating an iOS device (iPad)
    • Be detail-oriented and organized
    • Be a confident problem-solver
    • Be reliable, punctual and consistent in attendance
    • Be able to work independently and be able to comprehend, follow and retain verbal and written directions
    • Be comfortable interacting with people who are blind and their guide dogs (Human Guide training will be provided
    • Be comfortable around large breed dogs
    • Be committed to our mission to empower people who are blind or visually impaired with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel
