    Description

Volunteer Tech Developer - Help Keep Our Moodle Training Platform Up to Date

    Overview

The Foundation for Greater Opportunities in Learning (FFGOIL) is seeking a volunteer with Moodle LMS experience to help us maintain and update our online training platform.

Our ARISE Mentoring Program equips mentors who support women - including those with experiences in foster care and other life challenges - to achieve their career, life, and wellness goals. We use Moodle with the Edwiser RemUI theme to deliver training modules, certificates, and reflection activities.

To ensure our mentors have a smooth, secure learning experience, we need a skilled volunteer who can safely apply Moodle updates and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

    Responsibilities
    • Apply Moodle core updates (e.g., upgrading from 5.0.0 → 5.0.2+).

    • Ensure plugins and our Edwiser RemUI theme remain compatible after upgrades.

    • Backup and safeguard the site prior to updates.

    • Troubleshoot and fix any errors that occur after upgrades.

    • Advise on best practices for ongoing Moodle maintenance.

    Qualifications
    • Hands-on experience with Moodle LMS installation, upgrades, and plugin/theme management.

    • Comfortable working with Hostinger/cPanel environments.

    • Knowledge of PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, and Moodle file structures.

    • Detail-oriented and careful to prevent downtime.

    • Friendly communication style - able to explain steps to non-technical staff.

    Support for Volunteers
    • Full access to Hostinger daily backups and Moodle admin panel.

    • Clear upgrade schedule and scope (focus is on stability).

    • Collaboration with a nonprofit leadership team passionate about mentoring and coaching.

    Time Commitment
    • Flexible schedule, remote role.

    • Estimated 3-5 hours per upgrade cycle.

    • Current immediate task: update from Moodle 5.0.0 → 5.0.2+.

    Benefits
    • Use your tech skills to empower women through mentorship and education.

    • Be part of a trauma-sensitive, evidence-based nonprofit program.

    • Gain nonprofit project experience in Moodle administration.

    • Flexible, remote, and meaningful impact.
