    Description

Yuvoice - Empowering Voices, Amplifying Impact

Yuvoice is a dynamic organization dedicated to amplifying diverse voices and fostering meaningful conversations. We believe in the power of storytelling to educate, inspire, and drive positive change. Through our innovative podcast platform, we aim to create engaging content that resonates with our audience and promotes a deeper understanding of critical issues. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where creativity thrives, and impactful stories are brought to life.

Yuvoice is an online community of changemakers, as well as a publishing platform empowering real people around the world to tell their authentic stories.

    Role Overview:

Copy Editors bring their professional editing experience to our Editorial team to help Youvoice’s edited stories level up in terms of appeal, polish and readability. While they are reading content and correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors, they may also rewrite titles to make them more compelling and relevant, as well as parts of the text to make the stories easier for readers to understand, while still maintaining the voice of the writers. They are also able to fact-check and ensure that the stories are in line with the Yuvoice ethos.

    Core Responsibilities:

High-level copy editing: Work closely on the edited work of section editors, as prioritized in the publishing schedule, as you polish diverse content from multiple editorial sections to help authorize its readiness for publication at the final editing stage. Checks on spelling, punctuation and grammar need to be accompanied by a parallel focus on clarity, consistency, and adherence to editorial standards and the organization's voice and style guidelines across all content channels.

Problem-solving: Liaise closely with the EIC, and the editorial team section lead editors to find solutions to any issues as they occur, and follow up to ensure that scheduled pieces are prioritized and ready in advance.

Quality Control: Conduct quality assurance checks on published content to ensure accuracy, formatting consistency, and optimal user experience. Identify and address any errors or issues in a timely manner.

    Internal Collaboration & Meetings

    • Attend at least one of the weekly Editors’ meetings (Sundays at 11:00 ET or Tuesdays at 15:00 ET) to stay connected with the broader editing team.
    • Engage with team communications via dedicated Slack channels and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive culture.

    Key Skills and Qualifications:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent grammar and attention to detail.
    • A minimum of four years of professional editing experience, in English.
    • A grasp of the unique qualities of strong digital content.
    • Good time management skills, and the ability to prioritize the workload.
    • Basic knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing platforms (e.g. WordPress, Medium, social media platforms) preferred.
    • Enthusiasm for learning and willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of editorial work.
    • Copy Editors are expected to commit to a minimum of seven hours per week, with flexibility around peak times.
