Now Seeking: Volunteers to support the MTR Free Store

    About Mass Teacher Resources

Mass Teacher Resources (MTR), is a small nonprofit organization serving teachers at Title 1 K-8 schools in 70 communities across Greater Boston.

    Our Mission:

Mass Teacher Resources supports our public schools by providing teachers with classroom supplies that promote educational equity and reduce environmental waste - empowering student achievement and building a more just and sustainable future.

We provide teachers with the resources they need to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environment for their students. MTR is a fiscally sponsored organization of Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE). Find out more at www.massteacherresources.org.

MTR distributes free classroom supplies to teachers through the MTR Free Store, located in Woburn, MA. The store is stocked with new and gently used classroom and office supplies secured largely through donations from our community, including school supply drives, corporate donors, sustainability programs and other reuse markets.

This position is a unique opportunity for the right individual to volunteer as part of an enthusiastic, dedicated team and contribute to operations that directly support our public schools and offer a positive experience for the teachers we serve.

    Responsibilities:

This is an in-person volunteer role, with a high level of interaction with MTR staff, volunteers and local teachers.

The MTR Free Store is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.

Expected duties may include but are not limited to:

    • Staffing the check in desk during teacher shopping hours
    • Assisting teachers as they shop for the items they need for their classrooms; answering questions and facilitating check-out
    • Organizing, restocking and straightening shelves and displays
    • Helping teachers transport items to their vehicles

    Qualifications:

We are seeking enthusiastic, people-oriented individuals who are passionate about the mission of MTR, are able to fulfill the physical requirements of the role and who also possess:

    • Willingness to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies: staff, other volunteers, board directors, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders
    • Excellent people skills, with a genuine desire to be helpful
    • An ability to have fun while working hard
