Swim with us! Our beautiful children with disabilities need swim partners!
SNAPkids - Special Needs Aquatic Program is a community-based swimming program for children with disabilities. By volunteering it means a swimmer can participate! Our special swimmers rely on our volunteer helpers to create the fun and the magic each week. You must be at least 16 years old (young adults to retirees are welcome), a strong swimmer, and have a playful nature. We provide training and guidance. Come have fun with us in the pool! : )
Our special swimmers range from 1 - 21 years old and have physical and/or developmental challenges such as cerebral palsy and autism. You will be paired with a swimmer and another volunteer to create fun activities to meet the needs of your swimmer. Training and support are provided, leadership opportunities are available. Bring your happy self to the pool each week. We hope that you build a special relationship with your swimmer as SNAPkids is often a highlight of the week for our swimmers and volunteers.
We ask that you commit at least one hour per week for one semester (more hours are fine). Our classes are on Fridays in Berkeley and Sundays in Berkeley (2001 Allston Way) and Albany (1311 Portland Ave). We have swimmers who want to swim, so please consider joining us! As our swimmers do better with consistency and we give preference to volunteers who can commit their time on a regular basis. It's great fun for all! : )
See you in the water!
