    Description

Eyeglass Recycling Center Volunteer | Wash, Sort and Pack for Overseas Missions

Thank you again for your support of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation! Our recycle center is in full swing and, we have new and ongoing opportunities to stay involved. All opportunities are open to both individuals and volunteers of all ages. Youth under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult. Interested in bringing a student or youth group? Please give us a call! We love to involve community youth in this meaningful work.

    • Eyeglasses Recycling - Is your workplace, church, or school looking for group volunteer activities? Our recycling center is perfect for group outings to combine service and friendship. Your team works together to wash, sort, and prepare used eyeglasses to be sent with worldwide mission trips. Don’t worry if you don’t have a group - anyone is welcome!
    • Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Volunteer as much or as little as you'd like! There are 3 main ways to volunteer in the Recycling Center:
      • Role 1: Wash & Sort Donated Glasses | We receive donated used glasses from all over the country, weekly. Wash glasses in our industrial sink, hand dry them and sort them by glasses type. This is step 1 of our process.
      • Role 2: Read Lens Prescriptions on Lensometers | Once glasses are cleaned and sorted, we read the glasses to ensure they are stored under the correct lens strength (i.e. single-vision clear glasses, readers, bifocals, progressives, etc.) This is step 2.
      • Role 3: Pack Glasses for Mission Trips | Often, we get requests from churches, civic groups, medical groups, etc. that are interested in taking glasses with them in mission trips. We pack and ship the glasses to the groups for them to distribute to the people they will serve.
