Seeking a compassionate volunteer who would like to provide support and information to bereaved families, significant others and/or caregivers who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The volunteer will offer active listening, companionship, assistance and other supportive services under the direction of the Volunteer Programs Coordinator and Bereavement Social Workers.
Responsibilities may include:
- Making phone calls to surviving family members to provide information on bereavement support groups
- Offers various forms of assistance and support serves to aid with the bereavement process
- Writing cards and letters
- Assisting with support groups and remembrance events
- Completing written reports of contact and records hours through the volunteer portal
Bereavement volunteers should have the following skills:
- A warm, friendly, and adaptable approach
- Supportive and compassionate listening skills
- Knowledge or desire to learn the hospice philosophy and practice
- The ability to reflect on feedback and learn from it
- The ability to work with a range of emotions
- Willingness to be part of a team in the delivery of services
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, presentation, written, and telephone skills
Bereavement volunteers will need to complete a volunteer application, interview, and training.
