    Description

    Cabin Docent

    CABIN DOCENT

Are you passionate about history and eager to share your enthusiasm with others? We invite you to become a docent for our 1700s cabin exhibit and take visitors on a journey back in time to the early days of American settlement.

    About the Cabin:

The original cabin was likely built by the Cherokee people during the mid 1700's and is representative of a typical Cherokee homestead during the early 1800's. The cabin was moved from its original location by the railroad, due to the railroad shaking the cabin.

    What We're Looking For:

    • Enthusiasm for history and a desire to educate and engage visitors.
    • Strong communication skills to convey the history and significance of the cabin.
    • Willingness to learn and share information about the exhibit.
    • A friendly and approachable demeanor.
    • Availability for guided tours and a commitment to the docent schedule. (One Saturday a month, or we have a weekday option during the Summer months)

    What You'll Do:

    • Lead guided tours of the 1700s cabin.
    • Share historical facts and stories about the families that lived in the cabin.
    • Answer visitor questions and provide insights into the cabin's construction, furnishings, and daily life.
    • Ensure a welcoming and informative experience for all visitors.

    Training and Support:

We provide training and resource materials to help you become comfortable in your role as a cabin docent. You'll have the opportunity to work with experienced docents and museum staff to ensure you are well-prepared to lead engaging tours.

    How to Apply:
