    Description

    Homeowner Vetting Volunteer

This role travels across Marion County visiting homeowners at their home and walking them through an online form, waiver, home repair process and providing resources that may be helpful as they age in place.

Through an interview-like conversation guided by an online (or paper) form, the vetting volunteer will fill out the necessary form, gather the documentation for eligibility, and when able, photograph the home repair need(s). Data entry, photographing documents to upload into our database, and calling homeowners to schedule a vetting time are all elements of this role.

Successful volunteers have had a variety of backgrounds including, social work, community organizers, medical students, home health care, nursing, O.T, and more. Each vetting appointment lasts 30-45 minutes and sets the homeowner up for success in recieving a free home repair. The volunteer can be reimbursed for mileage but they must have their own vehicle. Some of the interview can be conducted over the phone if preferred, but we have found the older adults tend to prefer the face-to-face conversation.
