    Description

Come experience the joy in a child's eyes as they pick out their warm, new coat for this winter season! We invite you to bring your smile and warm personality to help welcome our families. We have two volunteer positions up in the front of the building with one being a greeter and the other helping with check in, and a third position helping monitor families waiting in line which will primarily be an outside position. We will assign you to one of two positions once you check in for your shift, and please wear or bring warm clothes in case you are asked to help outside as both of these positions might require inside and outside volunteers.

Please note the greeter and line monitor positions are mainly outside positions as you will welcome families as they wait outside, provide water, and answer general questions. Depending on how the outside line of families flows inside the building we might add an inside greeter to welcome families once they enter the building, guide them to the area where they will wait for a volunteer to shop with them, and answer general questions. Volunteers for this role must be able to move and stand for extended periods of time.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us get families checked in while they are waiting in line inside and/or outside. Families who are registered in advance will be directed to a designated area to complete check in process. Families who are not registered in advance will be directed to a designated area to complete an on site check in process. We hope to have laptops set up for volunteers to use during the check in process, and you will want to be comfortable using a laptop if you sign up for this position.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during their volunteer shift. Snacks and drinks will be available for volunteers throughout the event, and a light lunch will be provided to individuals who sign up for two consecutive shifts.

Please note children must be ten years or older to participate in this greeter or check in volunteer role. If a child under the age of ten is interested in serving with this event, we would still love for them to join us. However, for their safety on this busy day, we ask that they serve behind the scenes as an event assistant/restocking (please check out "Coats for Kids 2025 - Event Assistants/Restock" volunteer role for more information and sign up the child and adult volunteering with them there).

If you would like to sign up a group and do not have a volunteer account, please create one and sign up at https://centralusa.salvationarmy.org/centralindiana/volunteer/ or contact kathy.dallacosta@usc.salvationarmy.org.
