Calling all Newton and Brookline volunteers!
Community Cooks is looking for new volunteers to cook ONE DISH, ONCE A MONTH to help nourish neighbors in need. Volunteers needed ASAP to cook one dish each that serves 10-12 people. Volunteers should be able to deliver to Newton Corner Place (276 Church Street Newton, MA 02458) on the second Thursday of the month between 8:30 and 11:30am, or to Hearth - Ruth Cowin House (1027 Beacon Street Brookline, MA 02446) the fourth Tuesday of the month 8am-noon or the Monday prior 8am-noon. Community Cooks is also seeking volunteers in other areas for other partner organizations.
Newton Corner Place (NCP) is a single-room occupancy residence for adult men that is located on the top floor of the West Suburban YMCA. All of the residents were formerly homeless and some have lived at NCP for 20 years. Community Cooks supports NCP by providing them with nourishing meals based on resident's needs and preferences.
Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. The Ruth Cowin House is home to nine low-income elderly men and women. They have a variety of backgrounds, some of them longtime Brookline residents who, after many years of living elsewhere, in shelters, or on the streets, have returned home to Brookline. Each resident lives in a fully furnished studio apartment with kitchenette. A majority of residents enjoy special meals and holiday celebrations together, prepared by volunteer organizations like Community Cooks.
