    Volunteer Position: Creative Psychologist

    Location: Remote (with occasional in-person meetings, if needed)

    Duration: 3-month initial commitment, with potential for extension based on evaluation

    Compensation: None (This is a volunteer position)

    About Obu Lamu:

    Obu Lamu is dedicated to providing innovative educational support and therapeutic services to children facing trauma. We focus on individualized care, fostering healing, and creating spaces for growth in both academic and emotional spheres.

    Role Overview:

    The Creative Psychologist will play a critical role in supporting children through counseling sessions, evaluations, and wellness support. This volunteer will work closely with the Creative Education Programs Manager and other team members to enhance the emotional well-being and academic progress of the children we serve.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct regular psychological evaluations for children in our homeschooling program.
    • Provide remote counseling sessions for children and their families, focusing on trauma recovery, emotional well-being, and behavior management.
    • Develop and implement creative therapeutic approaches to help children engage with the material and overcome emotional barriers.
    • Collaborate with educators to identify mental health challenges affecting learning and develop strategies to address them.
    • Support the creation of individualized wellness plans for children, ensuring they are tailored to each child’s needs.
    • Assist in guiding parents through mental health and emotional support strategies.
    • Help develop content for educational workshops on mental health, self-care, and emotional resilience.
    • Maintain confidentiality and create a safe space for children and their families.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Psychology (preferably with a focus on child psychology or trauma recovery).
    • Experience working with children, particularly those affected by trauma.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with children in a therapeutic context.
    • Knowledge of creative therapeutic methods (e.g., art therapy, play therapy) is a plus.
    • Comfortable working remotely with occasional in-person meetings.
    • Compassionate, patient, and understanding of the challenges children face in academic and emotional settings.
