4. Gus' Grocery is a service for our member agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, etc.) to access fresh foods, vegetables and other perishable items. Having these products available for immediate pickup allows us to provide it to our agencies in a timely manner, who in turn distribute to their clients in need very quickly. The Gus’ Grocery area is maintained and stocked by LIC volunteers.
Gus' Grocery volunteers unload deliveries, stock shelves, assist agencies with selecting produce, weigh produce, bring items to their vehicles, complete paperwork, sort through produce, sweep, mop, clean refrigerators, break down boxes and throw out trash. Lead volunteer will also call member agencies to let them know what is available and to schedule pickups. Volunteers MUST be able to lift up to 30 lbs. There is a lot of bending and lifting involved.
