    Description

    Volunteer Mutual Aid Program Coordinator

    Company Description

The City Voices Service Exchange Program is a new, grassroots mutual aid initiative for friends and community members in the NYC area. Our mission is to strengthen community bonds and promote economic justice by facilitating a direct, non-monetary exchange of services, skills, and goods based on a needs-and-offers model. We are a volunteer-led project dedicated to empowering participants through reciprocal support.

    Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, mission-driven individual to serve as a Mutual Aid Program Coordinator. You will work closely with the founder to manage the program's operations, ensuring efficient and practical service matching between participants. This role is ideal for someone passionate about community organizing, social justice, and meticulous administrative work.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Data Management: Maintain and update the master spreadsheet (CSV/Excel) of participant offers, needs, contact information, and geographical locations (borough/neighborhood).
    • Participant Matching: Analyze incoming data to identify optimal service matches based on two primary criteria: Service Alignment (Need meets Offer) and Geographical Proximity (NYC borough/neighborhood).
    • Communication & Outreach: Draft and manage introductory communications (emails/texts) to formally connect matched participants.
    • Process Refinement: Help develop and document standardized procedures for onboarding new members and tracking the success of service exchanges.
    • Administrative Support: Assist with general organizational tasks, including drafting program updates and preparing for potential in-person community events.

    Qualifications

    • Required:
    • Demonstrated passion for mutual aid, community organizing, or social justice initiatives.
    • Exceptional proficiency with spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets) for data entry, analysis, and filtering.
    • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills for effective matching.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be based in the New York City area and have strong familiarity with NYC boroughs.
    • Preferred:
    • Previous experience in a volunteer coordination, administrative, or project management role.
    • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of grassroots/non-profit work.
