    Description

Lift Spirits: Be a Respite Assistant for Older Adults with Memory Loss

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity where you can make a real difference in the lives of individuals experiencing early- to mid-stage memory loss and their dedicated caregivers? Join The Gathering, a vibrant group respite program offered by Lyngblomsten Community Services!

The Gathering provides a welcoming and stimulating environment for adults living with memory loss. During our four-hour sessions, participants engage in brain-healthy activities, socialize with peers, and build friendships within a consistent weekly cohort. This allows their family members and friends to take a much-needed break from the demands of caregiving, knowing their loved one is in a safe and engaging space.

As a Respite Assistant Volunteer, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and supportive experience for our participants. You will work alongside Lyngblomsten staff and a team of trained volunteers to assist with activities, encourage engagement, and foster a sense of community.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist program staff with facilitating engaging activities such as music, games, gentle exercise, discussion groups, and creative arts.
    • Provide friendly companionship and support to participants, encouraging their participation and interaction.
    • Help create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for everyone.

    Time Commitment:

    • Weekly volunteer shifts are available from 9:30am to 2:15pm. You are welcome to sign up for shifts that work with your schedule - no weekly commitment required.
    • We are currently seeking volunteers for the following locations and days:
      • Como/St. Paul: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
      • Lino Lakes: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

    Benefits:

    • Make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals living with memory loss and their caregivers.
    • Join a supportive and welcoming team of volunteers and staff.
    • Support a program that fosters joy, connection, and well-being.
    • Learn more about memory loss and related resources.

    Qualifications:

    • Compassionate, patient, and respectful attitude towards older adults.
    • Genuine interest in working with individuals experiencing memory loss.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Successful completion of a Dept of Human Services background check (required for working with vulnerable individuals).
