Would you like to form a new connection and help combat isolation? Volunteers are needed to socialize with older adults or adults with disabilities, in-person or by phone, weekly. Schedules are flexible. It's usually one hour or so per week. You could also help as a Respite Care volunteer and give family caregivers a break.
The participants are connected to Fairfax County's Department of Family Services case managers, and many of them receive home delivered meals.
Volunteer mealtime visitors are also needed, and they should bring their own meal or snack, usually, at lunch.
Schedules are mutually determined by the recipient and volunteer. Recipients are receiving case management from social services specialists.
Respite Care volunteers visit and oversee the safety of an older adult for approximately 6 hours each month as companions. They give their family caregivers a break and allow them to run an errand or meet a friend for coffee, etc. Support and training is provided. There's no "hands on" care.
These roles are especially needed in the Alexandria, Falls Church, McLean and Annandale regions.
Bilingual volunteers are needed, too!
