First Wednesdays- Opening Reception

Each month - excluding January and November - is kicked off with a 'First Wednesday’ Opening Reception (6- 9 p.m.), introducing the latest exciting work by local and regional artists to local audiences and visitors. For more than 50 years, Baton Rouge Gallery has been helping those in and around Louisiana’s capital city find the art that speaks to them and follow the artists that they love. With a roster of more than 60 of the region’s best emerging and established visual artists, nearly every monthly exhibition the gallery hosts gives visitors a unique and diverse look at local art of all different media.

***we will be taking extensive measures to ensure that guests and staff are following safe COVID procedures.

EVENT SET-UP: (3:00pm-6:00pm)

Setting up tables and tents, assist with icing down wine, beer, water (Should be able to lift 50lbs. comfortably). Set up tables for bar. Set up bar (wine glasses, wine openers, plastic cups, napkins, tip jars.) Set out trash cans.

FOOD SET-UP:(3:00pm-6:00pm)

Setting up indoor tables, food prep, putting out food, charcuterie, dessert table, drinks, etc.

FOOD SERVICE: (5:30pm-9:30pm)

Assist with food prep. Run food to food tables. Monitor empty trays. Monitor trash cans during event and change out when needed.

GALLERY MAINTENANCE: (5:30pm-9:30pm)

Picking up dropped trash. Monitoring art and ensuring guests don't touch the work. Replacing trash bags as they fill up.

MEMBERSHIP TABLE: (5:30-9:00pm)

Finish setting up membership table. Greet visitors. Answer questions. Sell gallery memberships. Sell art work. Check membership status when needed.

EVENT CLEAN-UP: (8:30pm-10:00pm)

Clearing and breaking down tables. Putting away tents, barricades and lights. Sweeping, dishes and taking out trash. Clean up is a team effort so no one person is expected to do all of these things.

6 shifts available:

• SET UP; Indoor/outdoor, some lifting up to 50lbs, setting up bar, tents, tables, trash cans, lights, etc.: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 15:00 to 18:00 CST
• FOOD SET UP; Setting up indoor tables, food prep, putting out food, charcuterie, dessert table, drinks, etc: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 15:30 to 18:00 CST
• MEMBERSHIP TABLE; assisting with speaking to guests, selling tokens, merch and memberships: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 17:30 to 21:00 CST
• EVENT MAINTENANCE ; keeping an eye on trash cans, guarding artworks, gathering fallen food/drink: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 17:45 to 21:00 CST
• FOOD MAINTENANCE; helping our volunteer caterer distribute dishes in both galleries, keeping food tables as presentable as possible: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 17:45 to 09:30 CST
• BREAKDOWN; Indoor/outdoor, some lifting, breaking down tents, tables and lights, cleaning up, taking out trash: Wednesday August 06, 2025 - 20:30 to 22:30 CST
