    Description

Volunteer Math Tutor for Adults + Central Library = Learner Success!

Did you know over 3.5 million adults in California have not obtained a high school diploma or equivalency certificate?

Math is a common barrier. We're here to work with YOU to close this gap and help someone achieve their dreams of being a high school graduate. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or calculus genius, but you will need patience and superior people skills to help adults learn basic and business math skills. Tutors may also assist learners with English language skills such as grammar, conversation, reading, and writing.

We provide volunteers with the training they need to effectively coach adults so no teaching or tutoring experience is required. Staff is always available for ongoing support for volunteers to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Tutoring is done as a walk-in service so you'll meet people from all over the world and face different challenges every time you volunteer.

The adults who seek service from the library are also typically working to improve their reading, writing, and life skills so they can meet personal, work, and academic goals.

As a bonus, the Los Angeles Public Library Singleton Adult Literacy Center is located in the iconic and beautiful Central Library in downtown LA. This opportunity is only available at Central Library at this time.
