    Latin America and Caribbean Regional Volunteer

    Are you passionate about communities?

    The Movement for Community-led Development (MCLD) is looking for a Spanish-English speaking volunteer as its membership is growing in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

    MCLD is a global network of networks with a base in the Majority World (also known as the Global South). At MCLD, we believe that every person should have the opportunity to shape their own future, pursuing their own visions and goals. Too often, development is approached in a top-down way. In our theory of change, communities are at the center of every development process to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs). MCLD is a movement-organization of 3000+ grassroots organizations, NGOs, individuals and networks around the world, working to make the world more equitable. We are organized into National Associations in 25 countries across the Americas and Africa.

    Duration: at least 6 months.

    To collaborate on communications and network-building efforts, including potentially through:

    • Virtual events and meetings support
    • Writing, including potentially blog posts, manuals, reports
    • Translation for documents and meetings
    • Developing communications collateral
    • Research on topics related to development, international aid systems, funding structures, etc.
    • Knowledge dissemination, e.g. developing tools or resources, packaging learning to share with members

    Offered:

    • Practical knowledge on activities and procedures in civil society organizations and networks
    • To partake in knowledge and peer exchange between communities in the LAC region
    • To engage and to learn from diverse communities in the LAC region and around the world
    • To participate in all the trainings, webinars and other activities hosted by MCLD or related organizations
    • The possibility to learn about CLD, Aid for Development, and other relevant topics for our sector.
    • To strengthen communications skills and experience
    • A certificate accrediting of recognition for being a volunteer with MCLD
    • Being part of an exciting global network of communities

    If you are a student, we are happy to explore whether this volunteering can fulfill capstone or pre-professional experience requirements.

    Helpful skills:

    • Translation between Spanish and English.
    • Editing
    • Working cross-culturally
    • Writing in both English and Spanish
    • Maintaining simple Excel spreadsheets
    • Notetaking
    • Online information search
    • etc.

    Language: Fluency in English and Spanish. Preference for those who also speak French.

    Thematic field: community-led development, international cooperation, civil society, human rights, activism, advocacy, networking.
