West Tuality Habitat for Humanity believes affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities and is a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. Our programs not only build homes, they build community.
West Tuality Habitat operates the Forest Grove ReStore, which sells gently used items, and a few new items, to fund the programs of West Tuality Habitat. We need volunteers who are able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds at least a few steps. You will help unload items people are donating to us to sell (furniture, camping equipment, boxes of treasures, etc.) and help customers load large items they purchase into their vehicles. If you want a physical workout when you volunteer, this is the role for you!
This role requires a lot of lifting, walking and moving. It requires that you wear gloves in certain circumstances (provided) and to work with household cleaning agents.
This role also requires patience. People who ask questions when they need direction on doing a task are particularly appreciated!
You will also help clean up donations (wipe down furniture, remove finger prints, etc.) and other tasks for the ReStore, like cleaning the windows of our entrance doors and sweeping.
In this role you will come to the ReStore in Forest Grove for at least 3 hours on ANY day of your choosing (up to 8 hours a day), or multiple days, Monday through Saturday. The ReStore is open 9 to 5, Monday through Saturday. We are especially in need of help on SATURDAYS, but any day we are open would be helpful!
We are happy to sign off on any paperwork if you undertake this role for a class or if you want to do this for assigned community service.
We are right on TriMet Line 57!
We already involve volunteers in most aspects of our house-building and home repairs (and you are welcomed to volunteer doing that too!) - but we want the community involved and invested even more in what we do, and a way to do that is involving more volunteers. In addition, we want to keep as much of our finances as possible into those home-building and home repair activities, to support vulnerable families in Western Washington County, Oregon. We have even more volunteering opportunities listed on our web site at www.westualityhabitat.org
During service, volunteers are representatives of Habitat for Humanity and our mission. In addition to complying with all laws, regulations and Habitat for Humanity policies, all volunteers are expected to follow Habitat’s Code of Conduct.
