    Description

    Are you passionate about technology and helping others? Join us as a Digital Literacy Instructor and make a meaningful impact on the lives of older adults!

    Position Overview:

    A hands-on, supportive workshop designed to help older adults build confidence and independence by learning how to use their smartphones (iPhones and Androids). The program focuses on everyday functions such as calling, texting, taking photos, using apps, and accessing emergency features.

    Program Goals:

    1. Empower older adults to confidently use iPhone and Android smartphones for communication, safety, and daily tasks.
    2. Bridge the digital divide by providing accessible, non-technical instruction tailored to beginners.
    3. Promote safety and independence by teaching critical smartphone features like emergency contacts, medical info, and location sharing.
    4. Encourage exploration and creativity with smartphone photography and app usage.

    Communication skills:

    • Make and receive phone calls.
    • Send and receive text messages, including using emojis and voice typing.

    Photography and Camera Use:

    • Access the camera and take photos/videos using different modes (Photo, Portrait, Panorama, etc.).
    • Apply basic photo edits such as cropping, brightness adjustment, and filters.

    Connectivity and Apps:

    • Connect to Wi-Fi and understand data usage.
    • Create folders and customize home screen layout.

    Practical Application and Ongoing Learning:

    • Complete hands-on tasks such as sending messages, taking photos, or making a call with a voice assistant.
    • Distribute handouts, diagrams, and resources to support learning after the workshop.

    Format and Delivery:

    • Class size: Small groups (8-10 participants) to allow for individual attention and practice.
    • Schedule: 60-minute sessions; 1 session per class.
    • Instruction style: Supportive, slow-paced lessons using simple, everyday languate and visual aids.
    • Devices covered: iPhone and Androids only.

    The volunteer must be willing to teach in various locations throughout Plymouth County.
