Millions of people in the US face food insecurity ever day. An estimated 1 in 5 children experience hunger. At the same time, 40% of food in the food system is WASTED!
The need for our work has never been more vital.
At a time when there is so much hunger and we are experiencing the effects of climate change firsthand, we are throwing away the very food that could feed those in need and reduce its impact on climate change. Using a web-based app, Food Rescue US engages volunteers to transfer fresh food surpluses from local businesses to social service agencies serving the food insecure.
Food Rescue US - Charleston is searching for a strong leader to co-manage a well established and vibrant food recovery program in Charleston. The role of Site Director primarily involves creating and managing partnerships within the community. The role requires excellent organizational skills, comfort with technology, and, of course, some commitment of your time. While most of the work can be done on a very flexible schedule, it does require receiving and responding to emails, text messages, and calls in a timely manner. The Food Rescue US Site Directors bring different skill sets and experiences to our work, but they all share a passion for their community and our mission.
The site director will be responsible for actively soliciting new food donation opportunities and managing relationships with existing food donors.
