    Butterfly Habitat Lepidopterist

    Join us in creating a magical experience for guests by volunteering in our seasonal butterfly habitat! Now until October. As a Butterfly Habitat (Lepidopterist) Volunteer, you'll help support the care of butterflies through their entire life cycle and inspire Zoo guests with conservation-themed educational programming. This role is perfect for nature enthusiasts, aspiring educators, or anyone passionate about butterflies and conservation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Butterfly Care & Exhibit Support:

    *  Assist in habitat upkeep, and monitoring butterfly life stages.

    *  Maintain cleanliness of butterfly feeding stations and exhibit areas.

    *  Monitor and report any unusual butterfly behaviors or concerns to Zoo staff.

    Guest Engagement:

    *  Interact with guests of all ages in a friendly and engaging manner.

    *  Share fascinating facts about butterflies, pollinators, and related conservation efforts.

    *  Encourage guest participation in butterfly life cycle exploration and learning stations.

    *  Foster empathy for wildlife through interactive storytelling and conservation messaging.

    Educational Support:

    *  Help facilitate activity stations related to pollinators and native plant conservation.

    *  Serve as a welcoming presence and guide within the habitat.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    *  Passion for wildlife, nature, and conservation education.

    *  Comfortable working near live insects.

    *  Friendly, outgoing, and reliable with strong communication skills.

    *  Ability to follow detailed instructions and work both independently and collaboratively.

    *  Willingness to work outdoors in warm weather and stand or walk for extended periods.

    *  Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and reaching during a shift. Reasonable accommodations can be made.

    *  Able to work in a greenhouse-like environment (warm, humid conditions).

    Time Commitment:

    Lepidopterist volunteers are expected to volunteer a minimum of 24 hours per quarter. Shifts are from 9am - 1pm, and 1pm - 5 pm daily. Volunteers will give a minimum of four hours of service 1 or more days per week.

    All Lepidopterist Volunteers will receive training on butterfly care, guest interaction, and safety protocols prior to beginning their shift.
