If you can spare 1-2 hours a week, you can help an adult in Oakland County improve their digital literacy skills, so they can handle everyday computer and smartphone tasks, such as sending email, booking online appointments, keeping their data safe, and more.
Oakland Literacy Council will train a corps of volunteer digital literacy tutors using the Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum. Volunteers must be at least 17 years old and available for virtual training on:
Once trained, digital literacy tutors will begin meeting with adult learners. Tutors must commit to tutoring for six months.
This is an excellent opportunity for high school or college students or anyone who wants to gain valuable volunteer experience on a six-month basis. You do not need to be a computer whiz, only comfortable using computers.
