    Description

Empower Work Retiree Peer Counselor: Make a real difference for people in tough work situat

Are you retired, and want to use your professional experience to help others?

Volunteers in the retirement phase of life are a vital part of Empower Work. You have a wealth of skills and experience accrued over your professional career. As a peer counselor, you can support people from across the country who are grappling with tough work moments. Peer counselors field text or web chats from anywhere: your couch, dining table, or any space you feel comfortable and have secure internet.

Every day, people facing work crises - whether it’s a sudden termination, a difficult manager, or a loss of purpose - text our help line or chat with us online. Through our 25-hour training, you can provide them encouragement, clarity, and action plan they need to get them to a better place.

At Empower Work, we welcome volunteers with any amount of work experience and a passion for deep listening, empathy, and guidance. Once you’ve completed our structured training program, you’ll be able to take on a range of conversations as a Peer Counselor, using conversational tools gained from training to really get to the root of an issue and help people feel heard.

At Empower Work, we’ve had volunteers stick with us for years, advancing to become mentors or take increased responsibility on the line. Here’s what one current volunteer says about their growth and impact at Empower Work:

"I believe so strongly in the power of coaching, and that everyone can and should have the experience of good coaching at work. It’s clear that so many of our texters do not have anyone they can talk with candidly at work, much less someone who has coaching or counseling experience. It feels really valuable and do-able to provide that support to individuals via my volunteer shifts."
