    How to Apply

Instead of a cover letter, please submit your resume and answers to the questions below at careers@voqalpartners.org. Put Controller in the subject line of the email.

    1. Using 200 words or less, what ideas do you have to decolonize wealth, redistribute power, and build a regenerative economy? In what ways can accounting and finance be used to advance the public good for vulnerable communities?
    2. Using 200 words or less, what makes a good financial partner? What is your philosophy on the role of the budget and the role of the accounting/finance team within a nonprofit organization?
    3. Using 200 words or less, how do you stay up to date on best practices? How do you determine when and how to make improvements to the financial systems and processes? When do you make exceptions to financial policies and processes?
    4. Using 200 words or less, has there ever been a time when you found your values in conflict with the actions or goals of the organization where you worked? If so, what did you do?
    5. Using 200 words or less, describe how you have participated in public processes to advance a cause you are passionate about. Your example may include volunteering, public service, civic engagement, community organizing, or similar activities.

A written narrative is a clear and straightforward way to share your thinking, and many successful candidates chose that route. That said, you are welcome to answer the questions with a short presentation (up to 10 slides total) or an audio-visual file (up to 4 minutes total). Choose the approach that helps us understand you best.

    AI Protocol:

We understand that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a part of everyday life. We don’t ignore that reality; but we’re hiring you, not your AI assistant. You may use AI for basic proofreading (grammar, spelling, or clarity), as long as the core content and ideas are your own. If you use AI, be transparent. It will not count against you. It shows thoughtfulness and integrity.

Please do not use AI to generate your responses, either for written submissions or live interview questions. We want to understand your judgement, voice, and problem-solving style. If the main substance of a written submission was created by AI and not you, that’s a no-go. During live interviews, AI tools should not be used to produce or display answers.
