    Description

    NEWCO Strategies, a diverse political, management, and makers firm, is looking for a Communications & Digital Director. This dynamic position is responsible for overseeing the communications functions of NEWCO, projects of NEWCO Labs, and supporting client work. The Communications & Digital Director will report directly to the CEO. Local DMV-based candidates are preferred.

    The Director of Communications and Digital will be a key part of a small, high-impact team. You will develop and execute comprehensive strategies to help manage our internal and external messaging, digital platforms, social media, and web content, including support for clients when needed. You will support media talking points, ensure brand consistency across all digital, print, and multimedia channels. You will engage in a variety of activities, including client meetings, trainings, webinars, research, writing, and web-based projects.

    Overall Responsibilities

    Leadership

    • Work with the CEO to set and drive communications strategy, social media, and branding needs.
    • Develop actionable communications and branding strategies, objectives, and plans that ensure alignment with short- and long-term objectives.
    • Ensure consistency of the firm’s message, priorities, and branding across earned, owned, and social media channels.
    • Strategically manage, organize, and coordinate team members to help ensure efficiencies and collaboration.
    • Build and maintain relationships with relevant and innovative stakeholders in the industry.
    • Provide high-level strategy recommendations and assist in the development of strategies for client goals.

    Communications

    • Develop and execute strategies to support client campaigns, programs, and projects.
    • Work with all forms of media, including press releases and digital campaigns, print materials, social media, audio and video and more.
    • Attend speaking engagements and host special events.
    • Develop and conduct quality control on all communications.
    • Develop relationships and work with media outlets and other stakeholders, as needed.

    Social Media

    • Plan, design, implement, and monitor social media channels and campaigns.
    • Create, curate and manage social media content, including text, audio, visual and multimedia formats.
    • Engage users with prompt responses, organize competitions, ask questions and cultivate relationships.
    • Monitor social media trends, including developments in design, applications, strategy and innovation to stay relevant and effective.
    • Create comprehensive marketing plans to boost brand image, increase engagement and improve conversions.
    • Hire and supervise talented creatives, as needed.
    • Track social media campaigns’ key performance metrics to maximize results and report progress to management.
    • Oversee and collaborate on possible new programs or projects including, podcasts, the creation of video assets, and the management of a multimedia pipeline for multiple projects.

    Marketing

    • Create and maintain several successful brands and images.
    • Develop marketing strategies for new products, services, or campaigns.
    • Review current communications and marketing trends to determine the effectiveness of different styles and strategies.
    • Provide research to stay current.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • At least five years of experience in communications, digital, and/or social media experience, in a national context, as a staffer for an agency, elected official, media outlet, or political organization.
    • Extensive experience with communications strategy and tactics, and an understanding of the media landscape and multiple social platforms.
    • Understanding of messaging and storytelling across a diverse range of audiences.
    • Excellent project management skills, with an ability to lead and manage others.
    • Basic technical proficiency, including ability to step in to edit websites, video or audio, or design emails.
    • Basic familiarity with the hardware and software used in video production and live-streaming.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to be flexible.
    • Organized and able to reassess priorities with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to take initiative, act and organize time with extreme independence.
    • Ability to handle multiple "priority" projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
    • Understanding of progressive organizations, movements and issues.
    • A demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor and ability to work well on a team.

    Working Conditions

    • Hybrid work schedule with a minimum requirement of 3 days in the DC office.
    • Some travel is required.
    • Salary $120,000-150,000, with potential for bonuses.
