    Description

Abundance Strategies’ Fundraising Fellowship trains, mentors, and supports the next generation of fundraising professionals. We believe that increasing the diversity of the pipeline of fundraisers and supporting young fundraising professionals is critical to the success of the progressive movement, and strongly encourage people from diverse backgrounds including people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, veterans, and others from historically underrepresented communities to apply.

Over the past decade, Abundance Strategies has worked with a diverse portfolio of progressive nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and political groups addressing issues of climate change, democracy, journalism and media, economic policy, reproductive justice, community economic development, healthcare justice, and more.

Our immersive program provides fellows with a holistic understanding of fundraising for a range of progressive nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and political groups. It also offers a chance to hone writing, research, project management, and presentation skills while offering opportunities to connect with experienced development professionals and peers. Fellows participate in trainings on prospect research, major donor fundraising, foundation and corporate fundraising, development communications, cultivation and stewardship, grassroots fundraising, and more. When feasible, we assist fellows with potential career opportunities upon completion of the program.

    Fellows will:

    • Attend client and internal team meetings
    • Attend client, industry, and political events with organizational leaders, elected officials, and movement organizers
    • Train with Abundance staff on client engagement
    • Research high net worth individuals, corporations, and foundations
    • Draft meeting agendas, take notes, track follow up items, and draft donor outreach and other communications
    • Learn and practice essential skills including project management, managing up, writing, effective communication, and database management
    • Complete other administrative and operational tasks
    • Attend “brown-bag” lunches with fundraising experts with diverse professional backgrounds specializing in a wide variety of activities across the field

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired

    • An interest in working in the progressive nonprofit, advocacy, or political sector
    • Proactive attitude and a thirst for learning
