    THE ROLE

    The Associate Program Officer (APO) plays a key support role in advancing iAlumbras philanthropic and social impact agenda. Working closely with the Senior Program Officer (SPO) and Program Officers (PO), this position helps manage a diverse portfolio of grants and initiatives across the Foundation's four thematic areas:

    Ocean Vitality

    Land & Water Stewardship

    Sense of Place

    Resilient Communities

    This is an opportunity for a highly motivated professional to deepen their experience in philanthropy while directly supporting projects that shape community well-being and environmental resilience. The APO will work closely with the administrative and finance teams to process grants and contracts, ensure compliance, and maintain accurate documentation. They will also support grantees directly, guiding them in preparing proposals, narrative and financial reports, and helping them navigate the Foundations systems.

    The Associate Program Officer role offers:

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    You are self-motivated, with the ability to tackle complex issues, identify potential philanthropic solutions, and work with others to implement plans, all in service to the foundations objectives.

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
    • Outstanding project management, time management, and organizational skills with ability to manage projects across different systems and work styles.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Experience with CRM software (Salesforce would be ideal).
    • Proficiency in navigating computer programs (e.g. Excel, presentation slides, dashboards, etc)
    • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles (e.g. experience navigating financial statements, organization's budget).
    • Facilitation, group presentations, and conflict resolution.
    • Planning trips and logistics.
    • Some experience that includes community development or community organizing in México.
    • Adaptive mindset and flexible disposition.
    • Creative problem-solver with natural intellectual curiosity.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

    The ideal Associate Program Officer is a collaborative, grounded, and curious professional with strong skills in project management, communication, and relationship building. They are motivated by the challenge of supporting complex initiatives while staying attentive to details that ensure accountability and excellence.

    They are equally comfortable facilitating meetings, reviewing budgets, and engaging with community partners. With experience in México, and ideally in La Paz or Baja California Sur, they understand that effective philanthropy requires both humility and a commitment to partnership.

    They bring intellectual agility, adaptability, and a genuine interest in addressing community challenges through integrated, multi-stakeholder approaches. Above all, they are committed to learning, continuous improvement, and advancing iAlumbras mission to connect prosperity, health, and environmental stewardship.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    Research & Analysis

    Gather data and synthesize insights to inform decisions.

    Support identification of new opportunities, processing grants through our system, working closely with the administrative team.

    Partner Engagement

    Manage day-to-day relationships with assigned grantees.

    Represent the Foundation at grantee meetings, conferences, and community convening as needed.

    Monitoring & Evaluation

    Support development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools.

    Assist grantees in developing strategies to achieve and track goals.

    Internal Collaboration

    Work closely with Senior Program Officers and Program Officers to ensure alignment and execution of initiatives.

    Draft communications to internal and external stakeholders.

    Based in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

    Benefits

    Base Salary – A gross monthly salary, paid twice per month (on the 15th and last day), subject to applicable withholdings and statutory deductions under Mexican law (income tax, IMSS, and Infonavit).

    Performance Bonus – 15% of gross base salary, payable each March. For 2026, this bonus will be guaranteed at 100%. In subsequent years, it will be performance-based.

    Aguinaldo – Equivalent to two weeks of gross pay, payable on or before December 20 each year.

    Vacation – 12 days beginning after the first anniversary of employment.

    Vacation Bonus – Equivalent to 25% of the vacation days awarded.

    Health Insurance – Full participation in the company’s private health care and benefits plan (Seguro de Gastos Médicos Mayores Individual & Familiar), fully paid by the company.

    Relocation Expenses – Reimbursement bonus for documented household moving expenses to La Paz, along with one-time transportation costs for the candidate and immediate family.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Excellent communication skills with bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
