The Position:
The Chief of Staff for New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations and long-term strategy for the 22nd Council District. The Chief of Staff will serve as the Council Member’s chief strategist and problem solver, responsible for handling all political, legislative, and ad hoc matters that may arise and implementing smart solutions to improve conditions for the people of the 22nd District.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee the execution of the principal's overall mission, vision, and goals, and track progress toward achievement.
- In close partnership with the principal, develop and execute on all legislative priority campaigns.
- Partner with the principal and senior staff to build overall strategy, develop priorities and manage key relationships.
- Provide direct and proactive supervision of all team members, including 7 full-time team members and 3 - 5 Legislative and District Fellows.
- Oversee staff progress towards key priorities and milestones and ensure targets are being met.
- Recruit and hire new staff, as needed, and ensure compliance with all office policies.
- Oversee all the day-to-day administrative, legal, financial functions of the office, including creating the yearly budget and ensuring compliance with all City Council rules.
- Accompany the principal to events and meetings as needed and represent the office as needed.
- Proactively create and maintain a positive, high-impact work environment for all staff by managing team culture and escalating any challenges to the principal, as appropriate.
- Manage special projects, both short- and long-term, to advance the goals of the office.
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 5 years working in or around New York City government, either as a current or former government staffer, or within an advocacy or labor setting
- An unflappable commitment to the Council Member's vision for New York City
- Experience managing staff and supporting a principal, with a generous and collaborative approach
- Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail, with excellent written and verbal communication
- Existing relationships with key New York City stakeholders, including elected officials, labor leaders, and advocates
- The ability to stay calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure political and media environment
- An interest in pushing boundaries and a demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to New York City’s biggest problems
Salary and benefits:
- The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $118,000
