    Description

    Group Specialists focus on providing academic support and intervention services to the students of Redwood Heights Elementary, a K-5 located in the Oakland Hills. We are a thriving, diverse group of students and families who represent all of Oakland.

    Our Group Specialists are integral to our school's success when it comes to helping our students thrive. They help teachers work in small groups or individually with students who need extra support, provide additional lunchtime and recess coverage, and perform other tasks that help the principal, teachers and other staff members meet students’ academic and socio-emotional needs.

    Duties and responsibilities include:

    • Working in classrooms on a daily basis with teachers to support whole group, small group or individualized instruction;
    • Supporting implementation of blended learning (i.e. technology) programs on campus;
    • Providing targeted intervention to particular groups of students at teachers’ direction;
    • Supporting recess and/or lunchtime supervision outside and in the school building;
    • Performing administrative tasks at the direction of the principal or other staff members;
    • Helping students resolve conflicts using the techniques and principles of restorative justice and positive conflict resolution.

    We welcome candidates with:

    • Post-secondary degree (AA, BA, BS) or equivalent experience;
    • Training and coursework in education, child development, psychology, or counseling strongly preferred.

    We look for the following qualities in our applicants:

    • The ability to build strong, supportive working relationships with students in grades K-5;
    • The ability to manage assigned tasks in a prompt and effective manner;
    • The ability to hold a growth mindset and respond positively to feedback from peers, colleagues and supervisors;
    • The ability to serve as a positive role model for students in their interactions with all campus stakeholders;
    • Candidates who are solutions oriented, and help students solve issues by balancing student personal accountability with effective conflict resolution techniques;
    • Candidates who communicate with teachers and school leaders about students’ academic or socio-emotional concerns in a timely and productive manner.

    Our start date is flexible: once you secure this position, we'll have a 2-3 week period of onboarding and processing via our employment partner, the Oakland Public Education Fund.
