    The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a talented and motivated attorney for its Law Enforcement Misconduct Investigative Office (LEMIO). The Assistant Attorney General position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to join a first-of-its-kind statewide oversight body charged with identifying and addressing law enforcement misconduct, protecting civil rights and civil liberties, and improving law enforcement practices. The position is located in Albany and reports to the LEMIO Bureau Chief and Deputy Bureau Chief.

    Established by Executive Law 75, LEMIO investigates allegations of misconduct, including patterns and systemic issues, reviews policies and procedures of covered agencies, and makes recommendations for reform and/or remedial measures, including disciplinary action. LEMIO also may pursue civil litigation to address persistent misconduct.

    Qualifications:

    • At least three (3) years of post-graduate legal experience is required.
    • Experience investigating and/or litigating civil rights matters and/or law enforcement or governmental misconduct.
    • Knowledge of civil rights law and law enforcement practices, procedures, and reforms.
    • Strong writing, organizational, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • A demonstrated commitment to public service.

    Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
