    Originally established in 1962 as the Department of Adult Services by the Allegheny County Board of Commissioners, the Area Agency on Aging is one of five program offices of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. Its mission is to plan, organize, coordinate, convene, program, and fund, where possible, services to the elderly of Allegheny County. Under the federal Older Americans Act of 1965, the Area Agency on Aging serves as an agent of the Commonwealth, Department of Aging (PDA) and is one of 52 AAA offices statewide charged with the responsibility for the planning, coordinating, and advocacy for a comprehensive service delivery system to meet the needs of the elderly.
