    Position: Director of Marketing & Communications

    Reports to: President/CEO

    Position: Full-time/exempt

    Location: Portland, OR. Hybrid/flexible.

    Salary: $95,000 - $105,000/annual

    Benefits: 100% medical/dental/vision for employee, 160 hours PTO, and 12 holidays.

    ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

    The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) is a Native-led national organization dedicated to promoting the revitalization, appreciation, and perpetuation of indigenous arts and cultures. Our mission is to advance equity and cultural knowledge, focusing on the power of arts and collaboration to strengthen Native communities and promote positive social change with American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native people in the United States. Through our program initiatives, NACF supports Native artists, culture bearers, and projects that are focused on environmental, cultural, and social change. We support artists to create new work, develop their arts practice, and produce projects in collaboration with communities. Support includes financial resources, artist training and professional development, presenting and promoting artist work, and project management. NACF will continue with community engagement across the continental 48 states, Alaska, and Hawaii as it pertains to raising the visibility and availability of Native resources and knowledge to address cultural equity and help strengthen Indigenous communities, arts, and cultures.Located in the Pacific Northwest, an area known for its rich Native traditions and dedication to artistic endeavors, NACF is based in Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Director of Marketing & Communications position is a senior leadership role that will work closely with the Executive Office and Advancement team. The position will report to the President/CEO and will curate and execute multi-faceted external communications strategies to advance the work of NACF and support the comprehensive campaign and development efforts for NACF's grantmaking programs and the Center for Native Arts and Cultures. The Director of Marketing & Communications role is a cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment between programs, development, operations, and public affairs goals. The Director will supervise a Social Media Manager, Assistant Editor, and Associate Producer.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Communications Strategy, Vision, and Leadership
      • Develop and implement an integrated organization-wide marketing and communications strategy that builds visibility, strengthens reputation, and drives audience engagement.
      • Identify and engage priority audiences through market research, segmentation, and analytics; use data to refine messaging and outreach.
      • Define and maintain NACF's organizational voice across all channels, ensuring messaging reflects mission, values, and equity commitments.
      • Lead marketing campaigns (digital, paid, earned media, partnerships, and promotions) to expand NACF's presence in the arts ecosystem.
      • Increase and maximize storytelling opportunities to highlight NACF's impact, including grantmaking programs and The Center.
      • Actively cultivate and manage press relationships; prepare leadership and board members for media opportunities and thought leadership positioning.
    • Communications Operations
      • Supervise and mentor the Social Media Manager, Assistant Editor, and Associate Producer, fostering team cohesion and professional growth.
      • Oversee the creation and distribution of all print, digital, and multimedia content, ensuring brand consistency and integration with organizational goals.
      • Collaborate with Advancement to integrate fundraising needs/messages into marketing campaigns and donor-facing communications.
      • Coordinate with Programs and Operations to align communications strategies with organizational priorities and events.
      • Manage outside consultants and contractors (graphic design, video production, photography, web development) to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
      • Develop and maintain the organization-wide communications calendar; ensure consistency and collaboration across departments.
      • Build dashboards and reporting systems to track communications outcomes; regularly brief leadership with measurable results and recommendations for improvement.
      • Oversee and track the annual marketing and communications budget.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The ideal Director of Marketing & Communications will bring most of the following qualifications:

    • 5+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, fundraising, public relations, or related field.
    • A bachelor's degree or equivalent educational and work experience.
    • Proven experience in audience development, market segmentation, and data-driven marketing strategy
    • Experience managing campaigns across multiple channels (digital, paid media, earned media, community partnerships).
    • Graphic design, social media, web management skills.
    • Experience developing content and materials using Adobe Creative Suites, Wordpress or other content management system, Powerpoint, Mailchimp or other similar platform such as Constant Contact.
    • Discipline and organizational ability to work in a hybrid environment both from a home-based office and on site at NACF offices.
    • Exceptional leadership, project management and time management skills
    • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, with ability to adapt voice for multiple platforms.
    • Ability to interface with the public and connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

    Desired Qualifications

    Cultural competence, specifically knowledge and understanding of Native peoples and tribes.

    An arts and cultures background.

    Additional Expectations

    Primary office hours are flexible Monday through Friday between 8am to 6pm, depending upon meetings; work on evenings and weekends may be required as a function of this salaried position. Travel may be required and may include weekends. The office is located in SE Portland, Oregon.Working ConditionsThis is a hybrid position that includes working remotely and working in person at the Portland, Oregon location. The estimate of in-office time is 2-3 times a week. Will attend regular virtual and/or in-person meetings with staff and/or other stakeholders as needed in Portland, OR offices.

    Equipment Use

    Personal computers, standard office equipment, and tools.

    Mental and Physical RequirementsDuties require the use of considerable initiative and judgment. Requires working under minimal supervision and direction. Requires working under multiple deadlines and pressure. Requires good communication skills; verbal, oral, and written with supervisor, co-workers, and artists. At times, may require dealing with difficult people or situations effectively.
