Title: Safety and Security Officer
Location: Duke Farms, Hillsborough, N.J.
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director / Operations and Sustainability
Status: Part time, non-exempt

POSITION
The Safety and Security Officer is an integral member of the Duke Farms Safety and Security team. This role supports a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all who work at and visit Duke Farms. The Officer collaborates across the Operations and Sustainability department and works closely with other internal teams, external partners and the public to ensure that safety protocols are followed with consistency, care and professionalism. The position requires sound judgment, clear communication and the ability to foster a respectful, responsive environment.
YOUR IMPACT AT DDF
As the Safety and Security Officer, you will:
- Ensure that every visitor, staff member and resident experiences Duke Farms as a safe and welcoming place.
- Monitor facilities and grounds, respond swiftly to incidents and support a secure, inclusive environment for all.
- Play a critical role in protecting people, property and the natural environment on-site during emergencies.
- Respond to alarms, provide basic first aid and follow established safety protocols with professionalism and care.
- Contribute to a culture of care by identifying risks and helping prevent safety concerns before they escalate.
- Conduct regular patrols, communicate potential issues to the broader team and support proactive safety measures daily.
- Support the success of programs and events by ensuring that public gatherings are safe, welcoming and well coordinated.
- Collaborate with internal teams and event organizers to ensure site safety for convenings, tours and community programming.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Work experience in public safety and security.
- Demonstrated commitment to public safety and environmental stewardship, with interest in contributing to a mission-driven, sustainability-focused organization.
- Willingness to learn and participate in training, specifically in administering basic first aid. First aid training will be provided.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through and adherence to protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Comfortable engaging with the public, addressing concerns and defusing conflicts effectively.
- Ability to remain calm, clear-headed and controlled during emergencies.
- Capable of patrolling the property, sitting at a desk for prolonged periods monitoring surveillance equipment, standing for prolonged periods, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to navigate the 2,700-plus-acre Duke Farms property and travel to other locations, both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds to a height of 12 inches.
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, sun exposure and wet weather with potential exposure to environmental factors such as poison ivy, ticks and mosquitoes.
- Available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license required.

- Anticipated starting hourly rate is $16.50 to $20.50, and the final offer will depend on experience.
