    Description

    Bridges to Housing Stability, Inc. (“Bridges”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Howard County, MD. Bridges’ mission is to provide a path to self-sufficiency to prevent and end homelessness through affordable housing solutions and advocacy in Howard County. To that end, Bridges provides affordable housing and/or case management to households who are precariously housed and overburdened with rent, facing eviction and at risk of homelessness, or already experiencing homelessness.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Communications and Media Intern (the “Intern”) supports the Donor Relations and Fundraising Manager on digital media and communications projects. Projects include, but are not limited to, website updates, social media, e-newsletters, media toolkits, and fundraising communications. The intern will learn about communications and marketing at mid-size nonprofit organizations. This position will enable the Intern individual freedom to work on a variety of projects depending on skill level and ability, gaining marketing and communication experience. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic and positive attitude and be a proven strategic thinker and problem solver.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

    • Curate and post content on Bridges’ social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
    • Assist with writing and editing e-newsletters, press releases (when required), and donor communications
    • Support design of marketing materials using Adobe Express in line with the Bridges Brand Guide
    • Maintain Bridges’ website including but not limited to events, media, client stories, and e-newsletter content
    • Assist with communications during fundraising events and campaigns, and advocacy calls to action.
    • Develop an individual communications project, developed in collaboration with staff, that aligns with both Bridges’ needs and the intern’s professional interests. Examples may include but are not limited to:
      • Conduct research on communications best practices and develop a communications and media critique and plan based on Bridges’ current practices
      • Develop a Supporter Media Toolkit for Bridges’ community partners
      • Develop a social media campaign or video project

    ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

    • Attend semi-regular meetings with members of Bridges’ Board of Directors working in the Marketing and Communications fields. If available, attend Marketing Subcommittee of the Resource Development Committee and meetings with a contracted PR agency.
    • Attend topic-appropriate webinars, meetings, and events at the Association of Community Services, Maryland Nonprofits, and Howard County Chamber of Commerce.
    • Potential for 1-on-1 meetings with Communications and Marketing leadership at Howard County-based nonprofits and with Bridges’ corporate partners.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Enrolled as a student during all or part of the internship period
    • Background in communications, media, marketing, or related fields
    • Experience in writing and/or preparing content for websites, email, and social media
    • Experience with Adobe products and/or Canva, MailChimp, and Microsoft Office products
    • A commitment to Bridges’ vision to increase affordable housing in Howard County to prevent and end homelessness
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and manage projects with professional quality
    • Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply

    HOURS: This is a part-time (15 hours per week) internship.

    IN-PERSON/REMOTE: In-Person for a 1-month probationary period, hybrid during the remainder of the internship. In-person days will be between Monday-Friday, 9-5PM and can be set based on availability during those hours.

    OFFICE LOCATION: Columbia, MD

    INTERNSHIP LENGTH: The internship period is 6 months starting in mid May 2026, with potential for additional internships in the future.

    SUPERVISOR: Donor Relations and Fundraising Manager

    SALARY: This is not employment- it is an internship opportunity.

    BENEFITS: Stipend of $150 per month to cover transportation costs & any miscellaneous expenses of the intern.
