Role Summary
The Editor Intern will support APVA’s editorial associate work across digital platforms and publications. This role is ideal for someone curious about storytelling, media, and Africa’s creative sectors.
As an intern, you will be responsible for sourcing, shaping, and producing engaging content that reflects APVA Editorial’s mission, while also promoting the production of key editorial assets, such as weekly bulletins, monthly magazines, and multimedia decks.
Key Responsibilities
Content Curation - 20%
- Research events, opportunities, and sector updates relevant to APVA’s community.
- Assist in compiling content for weekly bulletins and APVA editorial calendars.
- Support the Editorial Associate in organising articles, interviews, and opinion pieces.
- Help proofread content before publication.
Social Media Management - 50%
- Assist with preparing content for social media platforms.
- Help format articles, short features, and announcements for publication.
- Support basic layout and design tasks on Canva using existing templates.
- Assist with simple content repurposing from reports, events, and trainings.
Content Production - 30%
- Participate in editorial meetings and planning sessions.
- Work with volunteers and contributors under supervision.
- Learn how AI tools are used for content, audio, and presentation support.
- Carry out assigned editorial tasks within agreed timelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Communications, Journalism, Media, English, Creative Arts, or related field.
- 0–2 years’ experience in editorial, content, or communications roles (internship experience counts).
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Canva and familiarity with digital publishing tools.
- Comfortable working with AI-driven tools for content, audio generation and design.
- Knowledge of social media management (Meta Business Suite, Buffer, or similar tools).
- Ability to deliver polished outputs.
