    Position Summary

    This is a six-month position. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

    TIRN is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and creative person to assist and learn from our executive director. The executive director intern will work alongside the executive director, assisting with various tasks: strategic, development (fund-raising), communications, administrative, budgetary, etc. This position is ideal for someone interested in environmental NGO management who wants a survey of the responsibilities and requirements of such a position.

    Roles & Responsibilities

      • Meet regularly with executive director
      • Assist with administrative and budgetary tasks.
      • Review and generate strategy and HR documents.
      • Generate or review best management practices and other policy documents.
      • Various other tasks as they arise.

    Qualifications & Skills

      • Ability to use PC or Mac and phone for direct and internet communications
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Solid math skills, including understanding of basic accounting principles and proficiency with Excel and/or google sheets.
      • Ability to work independently and organize oneself.
      • Hard worker, disciplined, ability to work on set/agreed priorities.
      • High standards for accuracy and completeness; attention to detail.
      • Knowledge and experience with Google Workspace a plus.
      • Strong interest in nature and the environment.

    Learning Objectives

    The executive director internship will help you gain hands-on experience in all aspects of executive leadership for environmental nonprofits.

    Location: This position can be remote or residential*, located at our headquarters in Olema, California, with free, shared housing nearby.

    Starting Time: This is a six-month position, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

    Hours: Half time 20 hours/week minimum.

    Benefits: We are happy to work with academic departments to ensure the internship meets requirements for academic credit.
