    The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is to meet human needs without discrimination. National Headquarters (NHQ) supports the work of The Salvation Army across the United States and internationally by providing leadership, resources, and strategic support to territorial and local operations.

    Internship Overview

    The Internship program provides an opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands‑on professional experience while supporting the work of The Salvation Army. This internship is designed to offer meaningful exposure to nonprofit operations, project‑based work, and professional development in a mission‑driven organization.

    The intern will work closely with staff members and may contribute to research, analysis, administrative support, program development, and special projects, depending on departmental needs and the intern’s interests.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct research on potential grant opportunities and potential alignment with The Salvation Army priorities.

    Support relationship mapping efforts.

    Participate in internal coordination meetings and capture key takeaways.

    Support the development of letters of inquiry and proposals, including strategizing approaches, development of budgets, and organization of supporting materials working with other Salvation Army staff.

    Organize expense and programmatic reporting information; reconcile and consolidate information.

    Support the development of program descriptions, case studies, and white papers for potential funders.

    Support the development of orientation materials for new grants.

    Support development of process documentation, including incorporation of feedback and lessons learned.

    Learning Opportunities

    This internship is intended to be a learning experience. The intern will:

    • Gain exposure to nonprofit and/or faith‑based organizational operations
    • Develop professional skills such as communication, research, time management, and collaboration
    • Work under the guidance of experienced professionals
    • Establish learning goals at the start of the internship and receive feedback throughout the summer

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in an area related to philanthropy, inclusive but not limited to, nonprofit management, public relations, marketing, business administration, communications, psychology, sociology, journalism, or philanthropic studies.
    • Previous experience working in a professional office setting preferred.

    Preferred:

    • Proficiency with Office 365 suite and other collaboration tools.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work within a team.
    • Ability to handle confidential information.

    Time Commitment

    • Internship Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 31, 2026
    • Hours: Up to 25 hours per week
    • Duration: Summer 2026
