About Us
Hola Cultura is a vibrant, multifaceted nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., that celebrates the culture and contributions of Latinos in society today. We produce independent media coverage of Latino arts and culture, conduct original research and host events that showcase our diverse community. Through this work, we lift up Latino voices, break down barriers, and promote cross-cultural understanding; while at the same time, mentoring and providing professional training in digital workforce skills to Latino youth and young adults.

Your Role
As an Copy Editing Intern in our Storytelling Program for Experiential Learning (SPEL) for people between the ages of 16 and 25, you will be part of an editing team focusing on topic areas such as local arts and humanities, social and environmental justice, the Afro-Latino Experience, and more. SPEL meets remotely every Tuesday for professional development training and collaborative story lab sessions. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in pursuing a career in journalism or related communication fields.

With guidance from the organization's Professional Development Staff, Editors, and Editorial Fellows, Editorial Interns will:
Professional Development & Weekly Stipend
Internships are volunteer positions for high school, college and graduate students and young adults. SPEL internships provide professional training and hands-on social media experience, as well as the opportunity to build a portfolio of published work promoting Hola Cultura and the organization's online magazine (www.holacultura.com) that attracts around 10,000 readers each month and works with larger media outlets including the Washington City Paper and WAMU/DCist, Washington's NPR station.
Interns located in Washington, D.C., and Boston, Mass., also receive a volunteer stipend of $20 per week; stipends for out-of-state Interns subject to available funding.
Remote Meetings
Hola Cultura is located in Washington, D.C. Candidates do not need to be based in D.C. to be considered, but must be available for our weekly Zoom meeting on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
We recruit three times a year for the spring, summer and fall semesters. For the upcoming semester dates, please visit our website.
We provide interns with professional development and professional editing services and opportunities to publish their work and build their portfolios. Internships for course credit are also available.
