    New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia (NSM) is an interfaith, multicultural immigrant justice organization working to build power, develop leadership, accompany families facing deportation and fight grassroots campaigns in order to change the balance of power and create a more welcoming and just city and country.     We are hiring a full time Rapid Response Community Organizer to support NSM’s member organizing to support impacted communities, plan faith rooted actions, and help organize allied congregations in the Philadelphia area. This includes deepening engagement in current congregations to join NSM programming and actions in order to build power and support impacted communities at a critical time in the immigrant justice movement.

    To excel in this position, applicants should have experience in community organizing: recruiting new members, developing leaders, leading actions, facilitation, and be comfortable adjusting to fast paced programming with citizen members. They should have experience with a diversity of tactics, confident working with faith communities, an adaptive team player, open to growth, and familiar with movements for justice for immigrant communities.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Facilitate members to plan actions as needed
    • Support our program to track ICE’s presence and activity by working on logistics, facilitation and trainings for members
    • Maintain and troubleshoot ICE activity with members and local partners
    • Build relationships with new and current allied member congregations
    • Engage member congregations in NSM programs and campaigns
    • Identify and develop leaders, both lay and clergy, in each congregation
    • Turnout and help facilitate monthly allied meeting and monthly clergy meeting
    • Follow up with members to accomplish tasks after member meetings

    Qualifications:

    • Bilingual in English and one other language. The communities we currently work with speak Spanish, Indonesian, Patois, Creole, and French
    • At least 3 years of experience in community organizing, which includes recruiting new members, building and facilitating groups, developing leaders, planning tactics and strategy, working in coalition with other groups, program managing and implementation
    • Understanding of grassroots organizing
    • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and clergy of different ethnicities, faiths, educational levels, and a range of ages
    • Strong written and verbal communication. Readiness to work in multilingual spaces with a range of digital literacy levels
    • Experience in facilitation, experience in popular education a plus
    • Understanding of the language and life of faith, openness to a variety of religious experiences and engaged in one’s own faith journey
    • Passionate about immigrant justice and a commitment to building movements and work environments that counter racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism
    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Highly motivated
    • Desire to learn, grow and be challenged
    • Ability to work as part of a close-knit team
    • Flexible hours - significant evenings and weekends
    • Experience working in multi-racial and multi-lingual spaces
