    Description

At Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, we believe every Girl Scout deserves opportunities to discover who they are, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. As a Program Specialist, you’ll help bring that belief to life by designing and delivering meaningful, engaging experiences for Girl Scouts across our region.

This is a hands-on, people-centered role for someone who loves working with youth, enjoys turning ideas into well-run programs, and thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Each team member focuses on specific program areas—such as outdoor adventures, travel, community partnerships, K–5 programs, teen programs, or special awards—while working together to ensure every Girl Scout program is full of discovery, friendship, and fun!

    What You’ll Do

As a Program Specialist, you’ll plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality programs and events that support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). Your work will help youth build confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging—whether they’re attending their first Daisy event or earning their Gold Award.

    You will:

    • Plan, implement, and evaluate Girl Scout programs, events, and activities aligned with GSLE outcomes and council priorities.
    • Facilitate engaging in-person and virtual programs for youth in grades K–12.
    • Develop and manage program plans of work, timelines, and event logistics.
    • Track participation, outcomes, and feedback using designated systems to support continuous improvement.
    • Manage program and event budgets in accordance with council policies.
    • Collaborate with volunteers, community partners, and cross-functional colleagues to expand program reach and impact.
    • Support recruitment, engagement, and retention of youth members and volunteers through program delivery.
    • Ensure programs are delivered with a strong focus on safety, accessibility, inclusion, and belonging.
    • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

    Areas You May Support

Program Specialists are assigned focus areas based on organizational needs and individual experience. These may include:

    • K–5 Programming for Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors
    • Teen Programming for Girl Scouts Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors
    • Awards & Recognitions, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award support
    • Program Partnerships with schools, businesses, and community organizations
    • Outdoor Education and environmental programming
    • Travel and Destinations, including trips and experiential learning opportunities

While you may have a primary focus area, flexibility and teamwork are essential. Program Specialists often support a variety of programs throughout the year.

    What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is organized, adaptable, and excited to work directly with youth and adults in a dynamic, community-based role. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

    • Have experience planning and coordinating programs or large-scale events
    • Communicate clearly and confidently in both written and verbal settings
    • Are comfortable presenting and facilitating in public or group environments
    • Can work independently while staying connected to a team
    • Are flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as needed
    • Enjoy building relationships with volunteers, partners, and colleagues
    • Are comfortable using common technology platforms and virtual meeting tools

This position is based in our Washington, DC office and includes travel throughout the Council’s jurisdiction in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle is required; mileage reimbursement is provided for travel outside the office.

    Bonus Points

While not required, we’re excited to hear from candidates who bring:

    • Girl Scout experience or familiarity with the Girl Scout volunteer structure, including Service Units
    • Experience with marketing, communications, or outreach related to program promotion
    • Experience planning and facilitating virtual programs or events
    • A background in community relations, partnerships, or business development

If you’re energized by meaningful work, inspired by youth development, and excited to create memorable, high-quality experiences for Girl Scouts, this role offers the opportunity to make a real impact every day.
