    About LEEP

LEEP is an impact-driven, evidence-based nonprofit that aims to eliminate childhood lead poisoning, which affects an estimated one in three children worldwide. We primarily focus on one important source of exposure: lead paint. Our paint programs involve generating data, supporting governments with the introduction and enforcement of regulation, and assisting manufacturers in switching to lead-free paints. Beyond our paint programs, we are piloting interventions to address other sources of lead exposure, such as spices and cosmetics.

Since our founding in September 2020:

    • We have initiated lead paint elimination programs in 40 countries; completed 33 paint studies; and agreed on goals to establish lead paint regulation with government agencies in 18 (e.g., Angola).
    • We’ve made crucial progress in engaging with manufacturers in 22 countries (e.g., Pakistan), and in reducing the lead paint market share in Ghana, Malawi and Pakistan.
    • Founders Pledge estimates that it costs $1.66 to prevent one child’s lead exposure (in expectation) through our work, making LEEP one of its most cost-effective nonprofit recommendations. Our own analysis estimates that it costs under $5 to avert one DALY equivalent through LEEP’s first 13 established programs.
    • We are a partner of the WHO and UN Environment Programme's Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint and a member of the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future.
    • We have received grants from major grantmaking organisations, including Founders Pledge, Coefficient Giving, Bloomberg Philanthropies, USAID, and Schmidt Futures.
    • We have appeared in Nature, Vox, Time Magazine, The New Yorker, Prospect, on the 80,000 Hours Podcast, and our co-founders were named in Vox’s Future Perfect 50.

    About the Role

LEEP is looking for a mission-driven communicator to join our External Relations Team. If you are excited by and have experience translating complex ideas into clear and accurate narratives, shaping digital strategy, and collaborating across teams to produce high-quality communications products, we would love to see you apply!

Working closely with our Head of External Relations, you will play a key role in translating LEEP’s scientific research and policy progress into clear, accurate, and compelling communications for global audiences. You will work closely with program and research teams to draft a wide range of public-facing content, ensuring all materials reflect LEEP’s voice and values and meet high standards for accuracy, scientific rigor, and transparency. You will also be responsible for day-to-day digital communications execution, monitoring, and metrics: you will manage LEEP’s social media content planning, posting, and performance tracking, update website content, and assist with the production of external newsletters. You will also support donor and stakeholder engagement by developing clear, transparent communications.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a great communicator to take on a high-impact position at the intersection of science, policy, and global development. You will play an important role in shaping how LEEP communicates its work and impact. You will contribute to LEEP’s external communications strategy by translating strategic priorities into execution and feeding performance insights back into ongoing strategy development. With a central role in shaping digital channels and external content, you’ll help define LEEP’s public voice while contributing to our ability to drive evidence-based change globally.

    Responsibilities

    Messaging and Content Development

    • Draft, edit, and package public-facing content aligned with LEEP’s voice and values, including blogs, newsletters, success stories, website pages, presentations, and thought leadership pieces that translate complex research findings and policy progress into clear, accurate, and compelling content.
    • Develop messaging and tailor communications for specific audiences including current and potential donors, global partners, journalists, and internal stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with teams across LEEP to produce cohesive, on-brand communications that meet high standards for accuracy, scientific rigor, and transparency.

Digital Communications (Website, Newsletter, Social Media)

    • Execute social media content planning, posting, and performance tracking across priority platforms, aligned with LEEP’s external communications strategy.
    • Maintain, develop, and update website content to ensure the website remains an up-to-date resource for stakeholders. This will entail updating pages using a Content Management System (CMS) and occasionally collaborating with a web developer and designer to develop new templates and dynamic web content.
    • Assist with the production of regular external newsletters, including content sourcing, drafting, editing, and distribution using the Mailchimp platform.
    • Produce monthly metrics reports, monitor general trends, and recommend improvements to increase LEEP’s engagement and reach for priority audiences.
    • Maintain editorial calendars and ensure timely delivery of content across channels.

    Donor and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Support development of materials for donor reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and transparent reporting of data with clear explanations of cost-effectiveness and impact.
    • Draft thank you letters, updates, and other communications to donors and stakeholders as needed.
    • Maintain donor lists, track communications with key donors, and conduct analyses as needed.

    What We’re Looking For

A successful applicant will possess or be the following:

    • A passion for LEEP’s mission and a commitment to achieving meaningful, scalable impact.
    • At least 4 years of relevant experience (e.g., strategic communications, technical or scientific writing, public affairs, marketing, journalism or related fields), ideally in international development, public health, policy, research or scientific organisations.
    • Exceptional writing skills, with a strong track record of crafting compelling messaging and content tailored to a variety of formats and audiences.
    • Outstanding copyediting skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong grasp of brand and voice standards, with experience applying them across content types and enabling others to do the same through guidance, editing, or collaboration.
    • Experience with digital content development and social media planning and execution, including creating and managing web and social media content and using performance metrics to inform planning.
    • A desire to work in a fast-paced and growing team.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
    • Comfortable working independently in a remote setup.
    • Experience working or living in low- or middle-income countries is a plus but not required.
    • Basic graphic design skills and/or knowledge of Canva or other design tools is a plus but not required.
