    Description

    ROLE SUMMARY:

    The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing grant revenue from foundations, corporations, government sources, and select family funds. This role leads the full grant cycle—pipeline research, strategy, LOIs, proposals, budgets, compliance, and reporting, while collaborating with Advancement, Programs/Operations, and Finance to produce compelling, accurate, and timely submissions that advance RMHCNE’s mission.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Grants & Revenue Development

    • Build and manage a rolling 12–18 month grants pipeline; prospect, qualify, calendarize, and prioritize opportunities aligned to RMHCNE programs.
    • Draft and submit persuasive LOIs/proposals with clear need statements, outcomes, and evaluation plans; tailor cases to funder priorities.
    • Develop proposal budgets in collaboration with Finance; ensure accuracy of revenue coding, restrictions, and reporting schedules.
    • Manage all post-award requirements (contracts, acknowledgements, interim/final reports) to ensure compliance and strong stewardship.
    • Track results against quarterly/annual goals; analyze win/loss trends and recommend course corrections.

    Stewardship, Reporting & Storytelling

    • Produce timely, data-rich reports that include family stories, output/outcome metrics, and photos (with appropriate permissions).
    • Partner with Communications and Programs/Operations to produce and share impact data, beneficiary quotes, for continuous quality storytelling.
    • Coordinate recognition and visibility deliverables with Marketing (web, social, annual report).

    Cross-Functional Collaboration & Systems

    • Maintain an accurate grants calendar and records in Salesforce log opportunities, activities, stages, and outcomes.
    • Align with major gifts, corporate partnerships, events, and Adopt-a-Room strategies to maximize integrated fundraising.
    • Support gift acceptance/compliance practices; follow RMHCNE brand and messaging guidelines.

    Benefits

    Working Conditions: Part-time (20 hrs/week), hybrid and Boston-based with the flexibility to work mostly remote. Periodic on-site presence in Boston and occasional travel to Providence as needed for meetings, tours, or content gathering. Reports to the Chief Advancement Officer.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, English, public relations, or a related field, preferred.
    • 3–5 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, and/or communications (preferably in a nonprofit setting).
    • Proven success in securing grants from foundation, corporate, and/or government funders.
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Experience with CRM/grant systems (Salesforce preferred) and calendar/portfolio management.
    • Strong relationship and collaboration skills across departments; ability to manage multiple deadlines.
    • Sensitivity and discretion in working with RMHCNE families and children; maintains confidentiality.
