    Description

    The Petworth Community Market (PCM) is seeking a creative, organized, and energetic person qualified to assist the Board of Directors to manage a weekly seasonal farmers market.

    The PCM is a seasonal weekly market founded in 2010 and located on 9th Street between Georgia Avenue and Upshur Streets NW. PCM provides an opportunity for the sale, trade, and promotion of local produce, goods, and services with a focus on producers, artisans, and entrepreneurs in the greater Petworth area. The PCM is open from 9 AM to 1 PM every Saturday, May through November.

    Job Description: The PCM is looking for a Market Manager to run the administrative and operational aspects of the market, with support from the Board of Directors and in coordination with the On-Site Market Coordinator. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

    • Complete business-related administrative tasks such as permit renewal, certificates, licenses, FreshFarm partnership, etc.
    • Review and confirm all weekly and on-going accounting and reporting is accurate at the conclusion of each Market
    • Provide board with reports on monthly accounting and food assistance programming as they relate to the market budget
    • Write and disseminate a weekly electronic newsletter
    • Manage social media posting (i.e. Instagram stories) and assist with social media throughout the week to announce vendor specials, market fundraisers, music, and community events, as necessary
    • Represent the PCM at special events and fundraisers on occasion
    • Liaise with vendors and potential vendors
      • With the assistance and direction of the Board of Directors, assist in researching and recruiting new vendors and manage the vendor application process
      • Serve as vendors’ primary contact to the PCM before and during the season
      • Complete training for food assistance programs
    • Assist in coordinating with community organizations, musicians, and/or other partners in relation to the community activities associated with the market
    • Create weekly market map of vendor placement
    • Assist in recruiting and managing volunteers
    • Assist in planning and executing special events on market day
    • Assorted other administrative and management duties as needed/assigned
    • Attend monthly meeting with Board of Directors
    • On occasion, step in to run the day-of operations of the Market on Saturday

    Time Commitment: Approximately 15-20 hours per week, Monday-Friday, during business hours (8:30AM-6:30PM) from May to November, with some preseason and off-season work. Occasional Saturday required based on availability of On-Site Market Coordinator during the season.

    We’d like the selected candidate to start as soon as possible to support off-season preparations and help launch and manage the 2026 Market Season. We strongly prefer a candidate that is interested in growing into multiple seasons and growing with the role and the Petworth Community Market!

    The successful market manager candidate will have:

    • A basic knowledge of and interest in farmers market operations
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
    • Knowledge of Google Workspace, basic accounting platforms, and databases
    • An interest in working with people – farmers, vendors, and community residents
    • Physical ability lift a minimum of 30lbs, to move and set up the market tents and related market equipment
    • Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required

    Pay Rate: Hourly rate of $24.00
