    Description

    LNESC Upward Bound is seeking motivated and caring Tutor/Mentors to support high school students (grades 9–12) at Heritage, Evergreen, and Fort Vancouver High Schools in Vancouver, WA. This is a part-time position (8–10 hours per week) focused on providing academic tutoring and mentorship in Math, Science, and other subject areas through one-on-one and small-group settings.

    Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO program designed to support first-generation, low-income, and historically underrepresented students in preparing for success in high school, college, and beyond.

    Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM

    Hours: Approximately 8–10 hours per week

    Commitment: Includes one Saturday per month

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide structured academic support during and after-school hours
    • Tutor students individually and in small groups
    • Assist with homework and course concepts in:
      • Mathematics: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Calculus
      • Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
      • Other academic subjects as needed
    • Serve as a positive mentor and role model, demonstrating leadership and professionalism
    • Build supportive and respectful relationships with students
    • Complete and maintain accurate session documentation and student logs
    • Collaborate effectively with program staff and fellow tutors
    • Participate in one Saturday Academy per month

    Daily Activities & Expectations

    • Create welcoming and inclusive learning environments
    • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and academic growth
    • Follow program policies and student safety guidelines
    • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and students

    Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled college student or recent graduate preferred
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Motivated, dependable, creative, and a self-starter
    • Demonstrated leadership skills and a passion for education
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
    • Must be able to pass a Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) background check
      • VPS will provide pass/fail clearance
