We are currently looking to grow our program team with the hiring S.O.A.R. (Seize Opportunities And Rise) Mentors to continue to steward the great work we are doing with our students. This part-time position is accountable for working in-person with high school students in temporary housing to support them in improving or maintaining good attendance and becoming more connected to their school. They are ultimately accountable for 3 areas of work:
- Mentoring & Coaching: Each mentor will be responsible for providing in-person 1:1 and small group mentoring for 8-10 high school mentees, during the school day3 days out of the week.
- School & Shelter Integration: Each mentor will be responsible for building relationships with school and shelter teacher, guidance, and administrative teams to learn about match resources and opportunities for their mentees as they relate to improving their attendance.
- Family Engagement: Each mentor will be responsible for building meaningful relationships with student families to be leveraged for rewarding student success and creating action plans for student improvement.
Specific Duties include but are not limited to:
Mentoring:
- Hosting 1:1 coaching sessions with high school students
- Leading small group activities
- Shadowing students in classes
- Planning and chaperoning trips
School and Shelter Integration
- Meeting with guidance team, shelter staff, teachers, and school administration about student progress
- Attending weekly meetings (i.e. school attendance meeting or guidance cohort meetings)
- Working students to complete applications for programs and activities in or outside of school
- Working with staff social worker to coordinate resources for the student
Family Engagement
- Calling parents and families
- Working with families to get permission forms signed
- Support families with finding support programs or people for various challenges related to their students’ academic performance
Additionally you should expect to:

- Financial management and literacy
- Personal goal setting
Represent our programs and our brand in the community
Qualifications (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Qualifications (Preferred, not required)
- Experience mentoring others
- Experience living in the shelter
