    Description

    The Market Systems Development (MSD) Advisor provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for market-driven and systemic programming on agriculture, food and nutrition security and livelihoods in Türkiye, Syria and Lebanon. The Advisor ensures that interventions are grounded in MSD principles, informed by robust market analysis, and designed to address immediate needs and facilitate systemic change in the long run. Programming applies Market Systems Development (MSD) principles to promote sustainable, inclusive economic growth, strengthen local market actors, and improve access to income, goods, and services for vulnerable populations.

    The Advisor supports program design, implementation, adaptive management, and learning processes to ensure interventions strengthen market systems in ways that are inclusive, conflict-sensitive, and resilient. The role includes close collaboration with program teams, MEAL, private sector actors, donors, and local stakeholders.

    Your responsibilities

    • Lead and provide strategic and operational support across Türkiye, Syria, and Lebanon, ensuring agriculture, food and nutrition security and livelihoods programs/projects are aligned with organizational and donor standards.
    • Design, develop, and oversee food system intervention including food and nutrition security, and livelihoods proposals, providing technical guidance to country teams and partners in humanitarian and development context.
    • Support country teams and partners in strategy development, needs assessments, program planning for agriculture, food security and livelihoods, and coordinate with clusters, networks, and stakeholders.
    • Lead and conduct market and value chain assessments; design interventions and strengthen local market actors while integrating gender, youth, and conflict-sensitive approaches.
    • Collaborate with local organizations, NGOs, government, civil society, and private sector actors to enhance inclusive interventions in agriculture, food and nutrition security, agribusiness and livelihoods.
    • Monitor and analyze trends in food security, nutrition, climate change, and lead assessments, market analyses, and evidence-based planning.
    • Facilitate workshops, training, and advisory sessions to build capacities in agricultural value chains, food security and livelihoods, and market systems approaches.
    • Provide technical support on project development, implementation, adaptive management, and guidance on indicators for sustainable agriculture, food security and livelihoods.
    • Develop technical materials, including concept notes, guidelines, and strategies for agriculture, agribusiness, value chain, and market system initiatives.
    • Promote adaptive, evidence-based programming across agriculture, agribusiness, technical and vocational, and food system sectors by guiding teams, documenting lessons learned, and sharing best practices.

    Your profile

    • A University or College master’s degree in food security, agricultural or development economics, rural development, nutrition or another field related to the position
    • Relevant work experience both in the area of foods systems and nutrition (e.g. market system development/food system analysis), preferably in the Middle East.
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field
    • Independent working style and proactive engagement with programming teams and other stakeholders
    • Good planning and priority setting, also when deadlines are tight
    • Excellent communication and methodological skills for training and capacity building
    • You recognize the growing value of data in your field and are eager to build your awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into your work.
    • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe's program countries
    • Excellent English skills both written and spoken, as well as Arabic.
