Job Role: Animal Shelter Caretaker (Single or Couple)
Job Description:
Daily Responsibilities
- Shelter animal care
- Meeting daily medical needs, enrichment, nutrition, socialization, and exercise
- Caring for up to 50 animals (max capacity), currently we have 42 cats, dogs, and chickens onsite, but we also sometimes do rehab/release for smaller animals, such as birds and bats.
- Shelter facility management
- Daily cleaning, maintenance, shopping, and DIY/gardening
- Daily administration
- Assisting with precise record-keeping and daily financials
- Use of skills
- Using your skills outside of shelter management (like photography, copywriting, media, DIY, or graphic design) to help develop the organization
- Veterinary visits in Danang and Hoi An as needed
Additional Responsibilities
- International adoption
- Organization Development
- Supporting the directors in the development of the organization with projects such as rescue, TNR, and community sterilization
- Social media, marketing, and fundraising
- To assist the Director and Shelter Manager in gaining relevant content for our online channels, posting on social media platforms, and generating funds
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have (required):
- Hands-on experience with farmed or companion animals, in a sanctuary, rescue, shelter, or veterinary setting (required).
And hold some/most of the following qualities (desired):
- Able to commit a minimum of 6 months in Hoi An
- Able to start immediately
- Hands-on experience breaking up dog/cat fights
- Not ideologically opposed to taking medication/vaccines (rabies is a real threat here)
- A 2 or 4-year degree in an animal-based qualification (experience accepted in lieu)
- Computer literate to include the use of Google Drive and other administrative programs
- Previous experience working in a low-resource developing country, with strength in creatively solving problems
- Previous experience working within the charity sector and/or experience in fundraising
- Knowledge and experience using social media channels or has marked achievements in their own personal channels/blogs
- An interest in working with all animal species and learning about anti-speciesism work to end animal suffering
- Self-motivated
- Excellent communicator, fluent in English with professional-level grammar and spelling
- Excellent work ethic
- Couples welcome
- Ability to ride a scooter preferred (at least one person, if applying as a couple)
Employment Benefits
- offsite accommodation near the shelter or onsite in a private room in the shelter if needed- offsite accommodation stipend of 3.5 mil per month (~$134 USD total)
- 21 days annual paid holiday accrued throughout the year
- 5-day work week, 35 hours a week approx. Though rescues and emergencies may require more hours
- Mostly flexible working hours - ideal for a digital nomad or remote worker
- 10 mil VND per month starting salary (~$382 USD at the time of writing).
- Motorbike rental and petrol allowance (1 per couple)
- Phone credit allowance (2 per working couple)
- 3-month visa renewal, but not initial entry visa (2 per working couple)

- This is a couple-friendly job that can be shared; it’s especially well-suited for a Vet/Animal Caretaker & a Social Media person.
- This job is well-suited for a remote worker or digital nomad who has free time during the day to care for the animals and wants a home-base.
- This job is well-suited for a university student studying remotely online, but who has free time during the day to care for the animals.
