    Description

    The Center on Conscience & War (CCW) is seeking our next executive director to steward this 85-year old organization into its next phase, while continuing to honor its rich history and critical mission. CCW is the only national organization whose mission is to extend and defend the rights of conscientious objectors to war.

    Responsibilities

    • Financial management, daily operations, compliance and regulatory reporting (state and federal) and record keeping of small, busy nonprofit organization.
    • Fundraising, including grant writing, donor relations, and planned giving
    • Conscientious Objection (CO) and GI Rights Counseling
    • Public outreach and education on conscientious objection, including writing and speaking for audiences of different ages, affiliations, and faiths; social media and website management
    • Maintain relationships with the varied faith communities that make up the CCW constituency
    • Represent CCW to other organizations, including the Selective Service System, members of Congress, and other government agencies and officials; the media; and our own constituents
    • Honor the 85-year history of the organization through stewardship of historical records for CCW in day to day operations and in coordination with the Swarthmore College Peace Collection

    Qualifications

    • Familiarity with and commitment to CCW’s history and mission, with at least a basic understanding of conscientious objection to military duty
    • Ability to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of a small nonprofit organization
    • Desire to support members of the military on their individual personal journeys, and facilitate their ability to tell their own stories
    • Communication skills: Write clearly and edit others’ writing; describe CCW work succinctly to supporters and the media
    • Ability to empathize with and provide support for people whose views may differ from your own
    • Sensitivity to and tolerance for a variety of religious and non-religious views
    • Ability to de-escalate, mediate and mitigate adversarial situations with military commands and other military personnel
    • Ability to research, interpret, advocate for and apply military regulations and policy
    • Ability to manage multiple and varied cases at once

    Salary:

    $50,000 – $55,000
